The newly opened Taco Palenque in East El Paso was a frenzy of anticipation with the visit of comedian and actor Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias to unveil his namesake taco.
The star of nine solo comedy specials and “Magic Mike XXL” visited the location at 7122 Gateway East Blvd., Suite B, on Wednesday, Feb. 25, to greet fans and introduce his Fluffy Taco meal.
The carne asada and cheese taco, complete with sour cream and rice, were a small part of why Iglesias wanted to visit the Sun City.
“I’ve been talking about El Paso for a long time and how much I love this city,” Iglesias said. “There are a few places I call my home away from home and this is one of them. I’m good friends with the Taco Palenque family, and it was my idea that I wanted to come and support one of their openings, and they wanted El Paso.”
This is the first location in El Paso with its sister eatery, Palenque Grill in Cielo Vista Mall, 8401 Gateway West Blvd.
Fans of the comedian had an early start, some arriving around 5 a.m.
For Derek Cuellar of West El Paso, standing in line at 7 a.m. with his father was a small price to pay.
“I had been a fan before and my dad was already a big fan of his. I liked his work as a comedian and an actor,” Cuellar said.
Marcelo Rodriguez, a field marketing manager for Taco Palenque, said the restaurant will be offering a Fluffy Combo for only $10, available exclusively during the event. They are currently open 24 hours, seven days a week.
