Over the last few weeks, Longhorns football coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have been busy on the recruiting front. In about a month, they will welcome one prospect they have been chasing in Montre Jackson from one 12th-14th. The four-star cornerback is one of the best players in the 2027 class, weighing all of his options.
During the recruiting process, Jackson has received offers from various programs, including Ole Miss, Texas Tech, SMU, Arizona State, LSU, Oklahoma, TCU, and Vanderbilt. That list could continue to grow the longer he stays on the market. The high interest in Jackson is partly due to how he is viewed by scouts.
Currently, the Gareland Lakeview Centennial High star is ranked as the 18th-best cornerback in his class by 247Sports. They also rank the Longhorns’ target as the 20th-best player from Texas and the 144th-best player in the nation. If Sarkisian is able to land Jackson, the secondary would get a massive boost.
While the Longhorns will get to make their best pitch in a few weeks, Jackson has already visited a few programs. That includes Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech. All of those programs have had various degrees of success and hope to secure a major recruiting win over the Longhorns.
If Jackson were to commit to Texas, he would join a group held in high regard. The Longhorns 2027 class includes four-star recruits Easton Royal, Cameron Hall, Brock Williams, Derwin Fields, and Karnell James. They will be joined by Noah Roberts, JT Geraci, Cade Haug, and Jackson Cook. That group is ranked 18th in the country by 247Sports.
Over the next few weeks, Jackson will be a player to watch. The Longhorns hope his recruitment ends in burnt orange, followed by many unforgettable moments in Austin.
