A former 97th District attorney convicted for stealing money from Montague County while in office is back in jail this week.
Casey Renee Hall was being held Thursday evening in the Hopkins County Jail in Sulphur Springs, according to online jail records from that county. She was booked into the jail Monday.
A warrant for her arrest was issued the same day in Denton County for an insufficient bond, court records show.
Hall’s case had been moved to Denton County on a change of venue request following her arrest and indictment in Montague County in July 2024 on theft charges.
Court records from the 362nd District Court in Denton County show that Hall was convicted by a jury on May 14 and sentenced to one year in state jail for one count of misapplication of fiduciary property and six years of probation for one count of theft by a public servant.
Hall was also ordered to pay a financial assessment of about $9,457, court records show.
She took between $2,500 and $30,000 of county money and put it into her own bank account, according to indictments.
Denton County court records show she filed notice of appeal on May 15 and was released on a $10,000 bond pending the outcome of that appeal.
Hall served two terms as DA for the judicial district that serves Montague, Clay and Archer counties. She resigned when the charges were brought against her.
