DPS says 13-year-old driving truck with teens in deadly West Texas crash

A 14-year-old boy has died and four other teens were injured after a crash in Winkler County Sunday, the Texas Department of Public Safety announced Monday.

About 11:08 p.m. Sunday, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was driving eastbound on County Road 201 when it veered off the roadway, according to a news release from the DPS. The driver, a 13-year-old girl, attempted to steer it back, but the vehicle entered a side skid and rolled over.

One passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and three more passengers were injured. The driver, another 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy all suffered serious injuries and were not wearing seatbelts at the time, according to the release. A fourth passenger, a 14-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries and was wearing a seatbelt.

No names have been released. Other information about the circumstances leading to the crash were not immediately as the investigation is ongoing.
