Could Houston target former Commanders OL Tyler Biadasz as a starter?

The Houston Texans are considering all options in fixing their offensive line this offseason, including going after a new starting center.

While Jake Andrews was a fine option last fall, there’s room for improvement when trying to stabilize the roster. Any chance to upgrade a position should be welcomed, especially on the interior of the offensive line.

Following the release by the Washington Commanders, center Tyler Biadasz is looking for his next destination. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bears are hosting the free agent on Wednesday, but if he goes unsigned, Houston could swoop in before free agency begins.

Since Biadasz was released, he’s able to sign with any franchise ahead of next week’s free agency. He was servicable during his two seasons with the Commanders, posting a Pro Football Focus run blocking grade of 71.2 and a pass blocking grade of 67.1.

Would Biadasz be an upgrade over Andrews and fourth-year pro Jarrett Patterson? Perhaps, but the overall potential isn’t as much as fans would like to assume. For a cheap price, perhaps Houston could steer him away from free agecny and get him to become next year’s starting center on a one-year deal.

Should Biadasz sign elsewhere, Houston might be all in on former Carolina Panthers starter Cade Mays, who is expected to be one of the more sought-after offensive linemen in the league this offseason after a promising campaign in Charlotte.
