The Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport was placed on lockdown Thursday evening, April 2, while Amarillo and airport authorities investigated a possible bomb threat, but no device was found.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, about 7:04 p.m. Thursday, an anonymous caller reported dropping off an individual allegedly carrying a backpack with a possible explosive device.
The airport was placed on lockdown, and all flights were diverted during the search. One aircraft at the gate was also held.
Amarillo Airport Police, along with Amarillo officers and a bomb detection K9, conducted a thorough search of the airport but did not find any explosive devices.
The airport then reopened, and normal operations resumed.
The investigation remains ongoing.
