Big 12 women's basketball tournament live updates: Scores, highlights

The Big 12 Conference women’s basketball tournament begins Wednesday, March 4, from T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The five-day competition concludes with the championship on Sunday, March 8.

All 16 teams are included, with the top eight seeds receiving byes and the top four advancing to the quarterfinals. TCU won its first Big 12 tournament last season with a 64-59 result over Baylor in the final.

The Horned Frogs repeated as regular-season champions and will be the No. 1 seed. West Virginia is the No. 2 seed, Baylor No. 3 and Oklahoma State No. 4.

CHAMPIONSHIP, SUNDAY, MARCH 8

West Virginia 62, TCU 53

6:13 p.m. — Jordan Harrison was named tournament MVP after leading No. 2 seed West Virginia to its first Big 12 tournament title since 2017. She finished with 21 points, six rebounds and four assists.

No. 1 seed TCU led by four, its biggest lead, late in the second quarter. The Mountaineers closed the half on a 7-0 run and didn’t trail again.

Olivia Miles scored 17 points for the Horned Frogs, who shot 20 of 60 from the field.

SEMIFINALS, SATURDAY, MARCH 7

West Virginia 48, Colorado 47

8:18 p.m. — No. 6 seed Colorado’s Desiree Wooten made 2 of 3 free throws with two seconds remaining and the Buffaloes’ last possession ended with a turnover as No. 2 seed West Virginia held on to advance to the championship.

Jordan Harrison stole a pass on the final possession after WVU missed two free throws that could’ve iced the game.

Harrison led the Moutaineers with 15 points. WVU will face 1 seed TCU on Sunday.

TCU 74, Kansas State 62

5:17 p.m. — No. 1 seed TCU will get a chance to defend its Big 12 tournament title after pulling away late.

No. 12 seed Kansas State led 43-41 with 6:22 to go in the third quarter before the Horned Frogs turned it on.

Marta Suarez poured in a game-high 22 points for TCU, which awaits the winner between West Virginia and Colorado.

QUARTERFINALS, FRIDAY, MARCH 6

Colorado 62, Baylor 53

10:43 p.m. — No. 6 seed Colorado led by as many as 17 points in the first half and held off No. 3 Baylor for the upset win.

The Buffaloes held the Bears to 19-of-62 shooting (30.6%). Baylor star Taliah Scott led the team with 14 points but shot 5 of 21.

Desiree Wooten led CU with 21 points, and Zyanna Walker added 19. The Buffaloes will face No. 2 West Virginia in the semifinals.

West Virginia 67, Arizona State 54

7:59 p.m. — No. 2 seed West Virginia scored 35 points off 19 turnovers to oust the 10-seed Sun Devils.

Sidney Shaw led the way for the Mountaineers with 19 points, four rebounds and an assist.

TCU 63, BYU 46

3:50 p.m. — Marta Suarez scored a team-high 17 points to power No. 1 seed TCU in the quarterfinals.

Two others reached double-figure scoring for the Horned Frogs, who led 24-8 after the first quarter.

TCU will face upstart Kansas State in the semifinals.

Kansas State 74, Oklahoma State 73

12:56 p.m. — No. 12 seed Kansas State stays alive with another upset win, knocking off 4-seed Oklahoma State after beating 5-seed Texas Tech on Thursday.

Jordan Speiser went off for a game-high 21 points, going 5-of-10 from 3-point range to lead the Wildcats to the win. Stailee Heard went for 18 points and eight rebounds for Oklahoma State, which will now await its NCAA Tournament fate.

Kansas State will play the winner of TCU-BYU in Saturday’s semifinals.

THURSDAY, MARCH 5

Colorado 55, Kansas 48

10:49 p.m. — No. 6 seed Colorado became the only team with a bye to win in the second round.

The Buffaloes, who advanced to face 3-seed Baylor, built an eight-point halftime lead and went up by 12 late in the fourth quarter. They out-rebounded 11-seed Kansas 39-25.

CU’s Desiree Wooten and Logyn Greer tied for the team lead with 10 points apiece. S’Mya Nichols scored 14 points for the Jayhawks.

Arizona State 77, Iowa State 68

7:52 p.m. — No. 10 seed Arizona State jumped on 7-seed Iowa State and held off Audi Crooks and the Cyclones.

Gabby Elliott scored 22 points for the Sun Devils, who led 17-9 after the first quarter. Three others reached double figures for ASU, which will face 2-seed West Virginia at 7 p.m. Friday.

Crooks scored 21 points, while Addy Brown added 13 points and 12 rebounds. However, ISU shot 36.1% and committed 14 turnovers.

BYU 70, Utah 52

3:56 p.m. — No. 9 seed BYU ran away from rival Utah in the second half to come away with the 18-point win.

The eighth-seeded Utes held an 11-point lead early in the third quarter before the Cougars utilized a 15-0 run to take momentum and the game.

Delaney Gibb tallied 19 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds for BYU. Lani White led Utah with 20 points. BYU will face No. 1 seed TCU in the quarterfinals on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Kansas State 58, Texas Tech 51

1:17 p.m. — No. 12 seed Kansas State continued its run at the Big 12 tournament with a stunning win over 5-seed Texas Tech.

The Wildcats closed the game on a 21-0 run, which included the Lady Raiders going scoreless the final 7:43 of the contest.

Four players reached double-digit scoring for KSU, led by Nastja Claessens with 14 points. The Wildcats will face 4-seed Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4

Kansas 56, UCF 35

10:16 p.m. — No. 11 seed Kansas rolled past No. 14 seed UCF 56-35 to close the first day of the Big 12 tournament.

It was a dominant defensive display, with the Jayhawks holding the Knights to 10 points or fewer in each quarter.

Unanimous Big 12 freshman of the year Jaliya Davis led KU with 10 points. Seven Jayhawks netted six points or more.

KU will face 6-seed Colorado at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Arizona State 54, Arizona 51

7:52 p.m. — No. 10 seed Arizona State kept its NCAA Tournament hopes alive with a 54-51 win over rival Arizona, the 15 seed. The Wildcats’ Daniah Trammell missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

The teams were within four points throughout the second half.

Heloisa Carrera scored a game-high 16 for ASU, which didn’t have another player reach double figures. Trammell and Sumayah Sugapong each scored 12 for Arizona.

The Sun Devils will face 7-seed Iowa State at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

BYU 76, Houston 66

3:44 p.m. — No. 9 seed BYU pulled away in the second half to end No. 16 seed Houston’s season. BYU will face rival Utah, the 8 seed, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

The game was tied at halftime before BYU outscored Houston 27-15 in the third quarter. BYU cleaned up its turnovers in the second half after committing 15 in the first 20 minutes.

BYU had four players score at least 14 points, led by Olivia Hamlin with 16. Houston’s Shun’teria Anumele scored a game-high 17 points.

Kansas State 91, Cincinnati 66

12:55 p.m. — Kansas State runs away from Cincinnati 91-66 behind a Big 12 women’s tournament record 17 3-pointers. The 12th-seeded Wildcats move on to face 5th-seeded Texas Tech Thursday at 11 a.m.

11:50 a.m. — In the first Big 12 tournament game of the day, 12-seed Kansas State leads 13-seed Cincinnati 40-29 at halftime. Nastja Claessens has a game-high 12 points.
