Texas state Rep. James Talarico scored an upset over U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the March 3 Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, according to CNN and Decision Desk HQ.
The 36-year-old former middle school teacher drew national attention for his Christian faith and populist message, running as a grassroots candidate.

Talarico addressed supporters during his election night watch party at Emo’s in Austin, Texas.
“This movement is about whether the people will hold the power in this state and in this country,” Talarico said. “We launched this underdog campaign six months ago, and since then, tens of thousands of Texans have shown up to rally with us in every corner of the state.”
