'A great one': Cowboys fans, Eagles media, Cooper DeJean react to Christian Parker hiring

The Cowboys have themselves a new defensive coordinator. And what just-turned-34-year-old Christian Parker lacks in extensive experience, he more than makes up for in promise.

The New Jersey native didn’t become a coach as a way to stay in the game; just the opposite. Parker got into the game to become a coach, an aspiration that reportedly started as early as middle school. His first opportunity came with D-II’s tiny Virginia State in 2013. By 2016, he was a defensive analyst at Notre Dame, where he was known as a methodical mind who has notes on everything. The Packers hired him in 2019. A stint in Denver with Patrick Surtain II followed. He interviewed for defensive coordinator jobs with multiple NFL teams before his 33rd birthday, but he joined Vic Fangio as Philadelphia’s passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach and won a Super Bowl title instead.

Now he’s the DC- for the first time- in Dallas, and there is a wide variety of opinions and reactions to the hire. Here’s a sampling of how the news was received across the football landscape: from Cowboys media, from the Dallas fanbase, from the Eagles faithful, and even from a first-team All-Pro who just lost his position coach… and knows exactly what the Cowboys have gained.
