2027 5-star LB commits to Oklahoma over Texas A&M

Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class is on pace to finish as the No. 1-ranked cycle heading into the summer, as coach Mike Elko and his staff have already landed ten commitments in the class, led by four-star blue-chip cornerback Raylaun Henry.

Amid all the offseason storylines concerning five-star CB John Meredith’s upcoming commitment decision, one of the program’s priority prospects in the cycle, five-star linebacker Cooper Witten, who is the son of former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, has visited Texas A&M multiple times and placed the Aggies in his top 10 program list.

However, after it was announced that Jason Witten, who previously coached Cooper at Liberty Christian (TX), was hired as Oklahoma’s new tight ends coach, the Sooners suddenly became the clear favorites to land the blue-chip prospect, while the Aggies have and will continue to make a push. However, that may be much more difficult now after Cooper Witten officially announced his commitment to Oklahoma.

During his 2025 junior season, Witten was a tackling machine at Liberty Christian, racking up 87 tackles, 62 solo tackles, two sacks, and forcing seven fumbles while recording one interception. Standing at 6’2″ and 220 pounds, Witten’s versatility as an equally impactful receiver makes him one of the top athletes in the class.

According to 247Sports, Witten is the 44th-ranked prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 1-ranked linebacker, and the 8th-ranked prospect in Texas.
