What will spring weather be like in Akron? Old Farmer's Almanac predicts

While Summit County residents continue to brave a brutally cold winter, the Old Farmer’s Almanac, which issues seasonal weather predictions, is already looking ahead to spring, and it’s calling for warmer-than-normal conditions across much of Ohio

Federal forecasters are also offering an early glimpse at what the coming months could bring. The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center is projecting above-average temperatures across much of Ohio this spring, along with precipitation patterns that could vary by month and region.

Here’s a look at local weather predictions for Northeast Ohio.

When does spring start in 2026?

The first day of spring this year will be Friday, March 20. It will last until Sunday, June 21.

What are the Old Farmer’s Almanac spring weather predictions?

Ohio is expected to see a warmer spring this year, with above-normal temperatures in April and May and below-average precipitation.

What is the last frost date for Akron, Ohio?

The last frost date is predicted to arrive on April 30, which is close to the historical average, the Old Farmer’s Almanac noted.

The first fall frost will be Oct. 22, which means the growing season for local gardeners will last 174 days.

What does the National Weather Service forecast for spring in Summit County?

The NWS’s Climate Prediction Center forecasts above-average temperatures for the three-month period of March until May in Summit County.

Above-average precipitation levels are also likely for the same three-month period, NWS reported.

How does the Old Farmer’s Almanac make its predictions?

The Old Farmer’s Almanac uses three disciplines to make its weather predictions: solar science, climatology and meteorology.

“We predict weather trends and events by comparing solar patterns and historical weather conditions with current solar activity,” its website states.

How accurate is the Old Farmer’s Almanac?

Weather predictions from the Old Farmer’s Almanac are accurate about 80% of the time, according to its website.

For last year’s winter predictions, the Old Farmer’s Almanac had an accuracy rate of 88.9% for temperature predictions across the country and 83.3% for precipitation predictions.
