COLUMBUS — No team was better than Newark Catholic volleyball in Division VI, and the recognition continues.
Senior Natalie Harrington recently was named to the All-Ohio second team by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association. Sophomore teammate Sophia Basham was named to the honorable mention list.
Harrington, who is headed to Dayton, split time between setter and hitter, racking up 489 assists, 175 kills, 105 aces and 269 digs. Basham totaled 199 kills and 91 blocks.
NC’s Katie Hill received a Coaching Achievement Award. Hill led the Green Wave to their first state championship since 2004 and the program’s first unbeaten season since 1983.
Newark senior Makayla Meister was named to the second team in Division I.
Meister, who signed with UAB, piled up 383 kills, 39 aces and 250 digs. She led the Wildcats to an Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division championship and a district runner-up finish.
Granville junior Elle Mortimer was named to the third team in Division III. She totaled 274 kills and 114 blocks.
Soccer trio named All-Ohio
Three Licking County soccer players recently received All-Ohio recognition from the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association.
Granville senior Charlie Wright was named to the Division III boys list. Wright, who led the Blue Aces to a district runner-up finish, recorded 24 goals and nine assists.
Granville junior Ivy Miller was named to the Division III girls list. Miller racked up 33 goals and 12 assists as she led the Blue Aces to a regional championship.
Northridge senior Ava Travis was named to the Division V girls list. Travis, who signed to run track at Bowling Green, totaled 20 goals and five assists, leading the Vikings to back-to-back double-digit win seasons in just their third and fourth seasons of existence.
