LeBron James posts cryptic social media video teasing 'the decision of all decisions'

In an Instagram post Monday, Oct. 6, NBA legend and Akron native LeBron James teased “the decision of all decisions” coming at noon ET Tuesday, Oct. 7.

The post included a salute emoji, king crown emoji and the hashtag #TheSecondDecision.

James, of course, became a polarizing figure for his initial announcement of “The Decision” — a 2010 ESPN special that aired during the summer wherein James announced he’d be “taking my talents to South Beach” to join the Miami Heat in the next stage of his NBA career during free agency.

So, what does #TheSecondDecision entail?

Early speculation indicates that James could be announcing his retirement from professional basketball.

The 40-year-old James, who will turn 41 in December, is still playing at an elite level for the Los Angeles Lakers. James averaged a ridiculous 24.4 points, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds in 70 games for the Lakers during the 2024-25 campaign — his 22nd season in the league.

Despite not showing many signs of slowing down, James has already indicated his retirement is coming sooner rather than later and said, “I’m not waiting on Bryce,” noting the timeline of his other son Bryce James, who is set to suit up for the Arizona Wildcats to begin his college basketball career this season.

James has already gotten to play alongside his son, Bronny James, who was selected in the second round of the 2024 NBA draft.

But if the impending announcement is not to declare his intent to retire, and setting off a retirement tour of sorts throughout the upcoming 2025-26 season, then what could this post be teasing?

Is LeBron’s second decision just an Amazon ad or something else?

Fans have noted that Oct. 7 is the beginning of more Amazon Prime Day sales. James previously announced Prime Day dates back in July, so it’s possible this is just another marketing stunt for Jeff Bezos’ retail giant.

Oct. 7 is also National Taco Day, so perhaps the NBA star and marketing mogul has a taco-related tease up his sleeve.

The latter speculation is certainly cynical, so we’ll just have to wait for James’ actual announcement on Oct. 7 to be sure.

If he does announce that the 2025-26 season will be his last, fans will no doubt be hawking season schedules to see if they’ll have one last chance to see King James play in person before he calls it a career.
