The Columbus City Schools Board of Education has voted to extend Superintendent Angela Chapman’s contract through 2029.
The new contract, approved at the board’s meeting March 17, keeps Chapman at the same $265,000 annual salary as her initial contract and extends it through July 2029.
Board President Antoinette Miranda said “strong leadership matters,” and said the renewal “affirms the confidence” in the work Chapman is doing.
“I’m really confident in moving forward, I think our goals are all aligned, the board and Dr. Chapman’s, and I think we’re going to be moving forward, doing some good things in the future,” Miranda said.
Chapman was hired by the district as its permanent superintendent in 2023 at a salary of $265,000. Her latest contract does not include a raise because of the district’s budget problems.
In December 2025, the board voted to approve sweeping cuts to the district to reduce the budget by $50 million. In February, the board voted to slash administrator jobs and freeze salaries. Miranda said that Chapman’s willingness to renew her contract at the same salary reflects her leadership and recognition that “we’re all in this together.”
“I think it really speaks to her commitment and her understanding of the pain, the financial pain that we’re experiencing and that she’s willing to be a part of that moving forward,” Miranda said.
Chapman said during the meeting that she was “honored and grateful” for the opportunity to continue her work at CCS.
“It is certainly my unwavering commitment that every decision we make in the boardroom or in the classroom, it will be centering the needs of our students, our staff and our community,” Chapman said. “I am committed to CCS and committed to seeing the work through.”
During the meeting, board Vice President Sarah Ingles said that Chapman has done an “incredible job in this community.”
“People trust you, they like you,” Ingles said. “Our families trust you and we trust you as a board, so we are happy to work on the things that we will be working on through at least July 2029, and hopefully thereafter.”
In December 2025, The Dispatch reported that Chapman’s board performance evaluation offered pointed criticisms of her leadership, saying that she had “significant areas of improvement” to make, especially in her communication with the board. Miranda, who was not on the board when the evaluation was completed, said that the board “has already seen those improvements.”
“I have confidence she’ll continue to do that,” Miranda said. “She is the right person for the district and the board looks forward to the continued work with her.
