CANTON ‒ A 19-year-old Canton man has been sentenced to spend five to 7.5 years in prison for his role in a shooting that occurred in North Canton on Feb. 5.
Stark County Common Pleas Judge Kristin G. Farmer sentenced Julius C.B. Edwards on April 9 after he pleaded guilty to two counts each of aggravated robbery and felonious assault. Specifications that a gun was used were attached to each offense.
The incident occurred in the road in the 300 block of Rose Lane Street SE on Feb. 5. The victim was robbed and shot in the leg while seated inside his vehicle.
An email sent to Edwards’ attorney Craig McKinney on April 10 offering the opportunity to comment on his case was not immediately returned.
Codefendant Jauron M.J. McLeod, 19, has pleaded not guilty to two counts each of aggravated robbery and felonious assault, four related gun specifications, and having weapons while under disability. He is not permitted to have a weapon because he was found to be deliquent as a child due to committing an aggravated robbery in a 2023 case.
McLeod pleaded not guilty to a charge of escape filed in connection with a separate incident, allegedly failing to return to the Stark Regional Community Corrections Center on Feb. 5.
Both defendants live in northwest Canton.
