Akron-Canton Airport reports highest passenger numbers since 2017

GREEN – The Akron-Canton Airport served 938,814 commercial passengers last year — a 23.5% increase over 2024 and the highest number since more than 1 million passed through the airport in 2017.

“This exciting growth reflects the confidence airlines and travelers continue to place in the Akron-Canton Airport,” President and CEO Ren Camacho said in a prepared statement. “Our community has shown up in a big way, and our airline partners responded with expanded service that gives Northeast Ohio travelers more nonstop options than ever before.”

The airport’s passenger numbers were declining before the pandemic and have been steadily increasing since 2020. The Akron-Canton Airport attributed the growth in 2025 to regional demand for air travel and airline expansions there.

Breeze Airways selected the airport as its first Midwestern crew base, and multiple airlines added new routes or additional flights. Starting this year, Breeze will begin nonstop flights in May to Savannah, and American Airlines will add a fifth daily flight in June to Charlotte, North Carolina.

“These service additions strengthen CAK’s role as Northeast Ohio’s preferred airport offering a convenient, easy-to-use experience while expanding access to the leisure and business destinations our community values most,” Camacho said. “We are deeply grateful to our airline partners for investing in our region, to our dedicated staff for delivering an exceptional airport experience every day, and to the travelers who continue to fly CAK as their airport of choice.”

Nationwide, the Federal Aviation Administration reported that 2025 was the “busiest year for air travel” in more than 15 years. That was despite REAL ID enforcement beginning in May and disruptions caused by a 43-day government shutdown.

The FAA managed 17.2 million flights, about 300,000 more flights than in 2024, according to the agency’s social media posts. The only other time since 2010 that flights reached 17 million was in 2019.
