After 113 years on the East Side of Columbus, Resch’s Bakery has reopened in its new, larger kitchen and retail shop in Gahanna.
Even with more registers and a less-than-full soft-opening menu, customers still queued up from the counters, out the doors and down the outside walkway at 150 N. Hamilton Road on Oct. 3. Resch’s will be open again Oct. 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a limited menu of doughnuts, cakes and cupcakes.
Pre-ordering and regular hours — 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays — start Monday, Oct. 6.
The new Resch’s includes a bigger kitchen that fourth-generation leader David Resch has said will allow the bakery to expand both its volume and variety. There are also more display cases, more cash registers and more room for customers to await their turn at the counters.
A landscape mural on one wall of doughnuts and flowers blooming has become the new spot for the neon Resch’s sign that hung above the door of the former bakery at 4061 E. Livingston Ave.
Resch’s originally planned the Gahanna location as an expansion but announced in September that it would move all operations there.
