6 indicted in 'random' attack in Corryville that left 2 men, woman injured

A violent and apparently random attack last month in Corryville that left three people injured has led to felony charges against six people, including three from Kentucky, who prosecutors say were involved in the beatings.

The attack happened Sept. 13 at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Short Vine Street. The three people who were attacked were walking home after picking up a pizza, according to prosecutors.

The incident was captured on video, documents say, but no video has been released.

As the two men and a woman walked by a large crowd of people, someone in the crowd asked for the pizza, prosecutors said. When they refused, according to court documents, 21-year-old Kenneth Bolin of Corbin, Kentucky, punched one of the men in the back of the head.

The man kept walking but was struck again and knocked unconcious, prosecutors said. As he was on the pavement, between eight and 12 people joined in, kicking and punching him. He suffered a broken jaw, as well as cuts and bruises.

The man’s friend tried to shield him, and according to prosecutors, was also badly injured, sustaining a concussion, dislocated jaw, as well as cuts and bruises.

The woman suffered a facial injury.

The attackers fled when police arrived.

Also charged are:

Court documents say Smith “pistol whipped” the man who was knocked unconscious, and Conyers kicked the man in the head and then “stomped on his head.”

All six have been indicted on charges including aggravated riot and felonious assault. Additional counts were handed down on Oct. 8.

“I am not going to tolerate random attacks on our streets,” Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich said in a statement. “Those responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Everyone should be safe walking home with a late-night pizza or enjoying Cincinnati’s nightlife without fear of being attacked.”

The incident happened a month and a half after a late-night brawl Downtown led to felony charges against seven people.
