Friday, Feb. 27
Girls Wrestling Sectional Tournament
Shelby’s Hope Timko made history as the first sectional champion in Shelby girls wrestling history on Friday night. She won the 115-pound weight class by going 4-0 with four pins, all in 38 seconds or less, including a 36-second pin in the finals.
Madison’s Estella Koppert-Smith won the 130-pound sectional championship with four pins in the tournament including a 3:10 pin in the championship match.
Crestview’s Naomi Gearheart won the 145-pound sectional championship with three pins on the day including a 1:51 pin in the championship match. She became a three-time sectional champion by going 3-0 on the day with three pins. She is now 104-13 in her career with 90 pins.
Madison’s Chloe Gilbert took third at 100 pounds and will move on to the district tournament while Ashland’s Rowan Varnes was third at 110, Hadleigh Hutcheson was fourth at 110, Ashland’s Amelia Hunt was fifth and Lexington’s Amelia Bender was sixth at 115 pounds, Ashland’s Gracen Brockett was third at 120 pounds, Ashland’s Isla McFrederick was fourth at 140 pounds, Madison’s Haylie Hutcheson was fourth and Ontario’s Raelynn Amerine was sixth at 155 pounds, Madison’s Alaina Ash was fifth at 170 pounds and Madison’s Anna Blanton was second at 190 pounds.
Division VI Sectional Final Boys Basketball: Crestview 53, New London 41
The Crestview Cougars picked up a 53-41 win over New London to claim a Division Vi sectional championship on Friday night.
Kaden Kissel led the Cougars with 14 points while Daniel Wells and Karter Goon scored 11 apiece, Max Durbin and Drew Spoerr chipped in with seven apiece and Carson Keener rounded out the scoring with three.
The Cougars improve to 13-10 and will take on Seneca East at 7:30 p.m. on March 4 at Willard in the district semifinals.

The Lexington Minutemen took a tough 65-57 overtime loss to Tiffin Columbian on Friday night in Division III sectional championship action.
Jayden Perkins led the Minutemen with 21 points while Dantrell Hughes added 19 including a buzzer-beating 3 to set the game into overtime. Ethan Bianchi had seven while Daniel Hudson and Jace Dawson chipped in with four apiece and Elijah White rounded out the scoring with two. Hughes pulled down 11 rebounds for a huge double-double in his final game in a Lexington uniform.
The Minutemen finish the season 10-14.

Division I District Boys Bowling at Port Clinton
The Lexington Minutemen competed in the Division I district boys bowling tournament on Thursday at Star Lanes in Oak Harbor. The Minutemen rolled a team total of 3,720 to finished seventh out of eight teams. Rory Glass led the way with a 232-144-190–566 for the 26th-best score of the tournament. John Taylor added a 205-154-195–554 while Ethan Holbrook rolled a 233-131-173–537, Dylan Smith had a 172-161-154–487, Grady Heichel had a 168-158–326 and Chase Hazlett had a 145.

Division IV Sectional Final Boys Basketball: Clear Fork 57, Fostoria 54 2OT
The Clear Fork Colts picked up a dramatic 57-54 double-overtime win over Fostoria to win a Division IV sectional championship on Wednesday night.
Trey Sellers led the Colts with 14 points while Noah Goodman, Jacob Brokaw and Carter Coole added 11 apiece, Xander Cyphers had six, Tye Pryor chipped in with three and Chris Ransom rounded out the scoring with one.
The Colts improve to 9-14 and will take on Galion at 7:30 p.m. on March 3 at Mansfield Senior in the district semifinals.

Tuesday, Feb. 24
Division I and II Boys State Diving Championships
Ashland’s Samuel Wolfe and Mansfield Senior’s Nicholas Shaffer competed in the Division I state diving championships on Tuesday morning. Wolfe scored a 172.60 while Shaffer posted a 144.20 in the preliminary round of the state tournament. Neither advanced to the semifinals.
In Division II, Lexington’s Ezra Mueller, Quinnten Anderson and Adam Britton competed in the state diving championships. Mueller posted a 139.00 in the prelims and a 227.20 in the semifinals but did not qualify for the finals. Anderson scored a 135.75 in the prelims and a 213.05 in the semis, but also didn’t make it to the finals. Britton scored a 132.35 in the prelims and was cut before the semifinals.
Division I District Girls Bowling
Shelby’s Chloe Ernsberger competed nicely at the Division I district bowling tournament at Star Lanes on Tuesday afternoon. She rolled a 148-166-175–489 for the tournament posting the 15th-best score of the day. Lexington’s Hailey Hildebrand was 20th overall with a 177-138-138–453 for a solid day in the alley.

Division I Sectional Girls Bowling at Fremont
Two Richland County bowlers punched their tickets to the district tournament on Thursday afternoon. Lexington’s Hailey Hildebrand rolled a 141-148-202–491 to post the fourth-best score of the entire Division I sectional bowling tournament at Fremont’s Plaza Lanes. She will be joined by Shelby’s Chloe Ernsberger who rolled a 135-165-134–434 for the eighth-best score of the tournament. They were among the Top 4 scores not already on a qualifying team and will compete at next week’s district tournament.
The Lexington Lady Lex girls bowling team took sixth out of 13 teams as they rolled a 2,578 as a team. Pacing Hildebrand was Sera Brant with a 112-136-172–420 while Quinn Miller added a 113-141-102–356, Kaitlyn O’Brien added a 117-91-118–326, Addison Sigler had a 69-108–117 and Kimber Buffington had a 91.
The Shelby Whippets girls bowling team took seventh out of 13 teams as they rolled a 2,575 as a team. Pacing Ernsberger was Karlie Seibert with a 141-115-120–376, Bry Francis with a 105-127-131-363, Zoe Karshner with an 87-160–247 and Gabi Griefenstine with a 112-101–213.
The Mansfield Senior girls bowling team took 10th out of 13 teams as they rolled a 2,306 as a team. Adriana Parsons led the Tygers with a 143-147-123–413, Jiya Patel added a 113-109-152–374, Kenzie Couch had a 124-112-120–356, Sahar Bond rolled a 73-99–172, Samarya Bracy-Bradley added a 98, Kayla Sallee scored a 94, Gwendolyn Thomas had a 79 and Omarys Figueroa-Morales rounded out the scoring with a 69.

Division II District Diving at Bowling Green State University
A trio of Lexington divers competed in the Division II Northwest District diving competition on Wednesday.
Quinnten Anderson took ninth overall after posting a 135.10 in the preliminaries, a 214.65 in the semifinals and a 277.50 in the finals. Adam Britton took 10th overall after scoring 125.95 in the prelims, 196.75 in the semis and 277.20 in the finals and Ezra Mueller took 11th overall with a 124.85 in the prelims, a 199.25 in the semis and a 274.10 in the finals.
Division VII Sectional Semifinal Girls Basketball: Crestline 37, Plymouth 14
The Plymouth Big Red took a 37-14 loss to Crestline in the Division VII sectional semifinals on Wednesday night.
Aly Lewis led the Big Red with four points while Brooklyn DeCapio added three, Rylie Edwards, Karsyn Steele-Adkins and Addison Slone chipped in with two apiece and Jordyn Zehner rounded out the scoring with one.
The Big Red end the season 3-20.
Tuesday, Feb. 17
Division I District Diving at Blowing Green State University
Mansfield Senior’s Nicholas Shaffer finished sixth in the Division I district diving competition. He posted a 148.65 in the preliminaries before improving to a 232.65 in the semifinals and a 313.50 in the finals to post the sixth-best score in the 15-competitor field.
Division I Sectional Boys Bowling at Fremont
The Lexington Minutemen were one of just four teams to qualify for the district bowling tournament out of the sectional at Fremont on Tuesday. The team rolled a 3,661 to finish third overall nabbing a team qualifying spot in the process.
John Taylor led Lexington with a 185-170-243—598 while Ethan Holbrook added a 211-167-153—531, Dylan Smith had a 158-213-146—517, Rory Glass had a 208-127-150—485 and Grady Heichel added a 155-128-145—428.
The Minutemen will move on to compete in the Division I District Boys Bowling at Port Clinton on Feb. 26.
Division IV Sectional Semifinal Girls Basketball: Bellevue 84, Lexington 21
The Lexington Lady Lex took a tough 84-21 loss to Bellevue in the Division IV sectional semifinals on Tuesday night.
Tatum Stover led Lex with 13 points while Gracee Reis had five and Audrey Wendling rounded out the scoring with three.
Lexington ends the season 2-21.

Division II Sectional Girls Bowling at Port Clinton
The St. Peter’s Spartans competed in the Division II sectional girlss bowling tournament on Tuesday morning. They rolled a team total 1,856, taking 13th in the sectional tournament. They will not advance to the district tournament next week.
Zamya Thomas led the Spartans with a 117-74-105-296 which was good for the 47th-best score of the entire tournament. Abbey Farragher rolled a 98-79-118-295 while Favour Okoh added a 135-77-76-288, Nadia Devall had an 87-70-102-259, Nazyia Brown had games of 84 and 76 and Julyana Bass had a game of 62.
Monday, Feb. 9
Division II Sectional Boys Bowling at Port Clinton
The St. Peter’s Spartans competed in the Division II sectional boys bowling tournament on Monday morning. They rolled a team total 2,157, taking 13th in the sectional tournament. They will not advance to the district tournament next week.
Quinn Chamberlin led the Spartans with a 108-189-104-401 to roll the 38th best score of the entire tournament. Daniel Craft posted a 78-102-122-302 while Nasir Brown added a 129-96-76-301, Brayden Madden had a 73-92-95-260 and Ben Cuttita rounded out the scoring with a 59-75-103-237.
