YONKERS — An approximately 40-foot-long, 10-foot-high section of a wall collapsed onto a parked car at the corner of Landscape and Caryl avenue on Wednesday, March 4, according to fire department officials.
The driver was in the vehicle at the time of the wall collapse, but was able to get out as responders arrived on scene, officials said.
The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Responders secure perimeter at Yonkers retaining wall collapse
Dispatchers started getting 9-1-1 calls about a potential wall collapse at around 11:35 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Firefighters and police were on scene as of 1:40 p.m. Wednesday awaiting an assessment from Yonkers City Buildings Department.
At the scene, what appeared to be a retaining wall at a residential property was observed to be collapsed, with mounds of dirt from the property seen on top of a black sedan.
First responders set up a safety perimeter in the area of the collapse.
