Yonkers apartment unit in 10-story building destroyed by fire

A third-floor Yonkers apartment unit was destroyed by fire Tuesday, March 3, causing a family to be displaced.

Yonkers Fire Department said Tuesday that the fire developed around 2:45 p.m. at 358 Nepperhan Ave., a ten-story apartment building.

Heavy smoke was observed by first responders coming from a third-floor unit’s window, and the three-alarm fire caused the smoke to spread to other floors.

Yonkers Fire Department said no injuries were reported and no residents were inside the three-bedroom unit at the time of the fire, but the apartment was later deemed unlivable by the City of Yonkers Building Department.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
