WHITESBORO – Two-time defending champion Whitesboro will play for another Section III title after beating the Carthage Comets 38-12 in Friday’s Class A semifinal at Chiz Frye Field on Nov. 7.
Back on its traditional home field after playing last week’s quarterfinal at the high school’s Ed Wadas complex, Whitesboro (9-1) jumped ahead 24-0 before halftime.
Frank Zupancic threw three touchdown passes, including a 15-yarder to Mike Hill to open the scoring. Giovanni Lang and Connor McDonald added touchdown runs, and Simon Kichuk kicked a 32-yard field goal to cap the first half scoring.
Zupancic threw second half touchdown passes to McDonald and Hill, who made his return to the lineup from an injury. The 63-yarder to McDonald made the score 31-0 before Carthage (7-3) put up its first points. The Hill touchdown covered 54 yards.
Alex Mitchell and Carson Rick ran for touchdowns for Carthage which had been beaten 28-12 at home by Whitesboro two weeks ago.
Whitesboro plays East Syracuse-Minoa (8-2) in the sectional final at Syracuse University’s JMA Wireless Dome November 14. Whitesboro previously beat East Syracuse-Minoa 21-7 on the road in September. East Syracuse-Minoa, seeded second, advanced with Friday’s 31-6 win over Fayetteville-Manlius.
Class C: General Brown 63, Little Falls 0
The General Brown Lions earned a spot in Section III’s Class C championship game for the fourth year in a row with Friday’s 63-0 win over Little Falls.
Camden Thomas ran for 174 yards and three touchdowns for the Lions (9-1). His 6- and 45-yard touchdowns started the scoring in General Brown’s 29-point first quarter.
Cooper Donaldson added two of General Brown’s nine touchdown runs, and Jackson Ward had 115 of the team’s 446 yards rushing.
Little Falls finishes its season with a 4-6 record after winning three games in a row to get to the sectional semifinals.
No. 2 General Brown returns to the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse November 15 to defend its 2024 title against the winner of a November 8 game between Skaneateles and top seed Cazenovia.
