Schumer's Binghamton office among 3 to get bomb threats, citing 2020 election

Sen. Chuck Schumer’s downtown Binghamton office was among three targeted with bomb threats, according to the Senate Majority Leader.

The Democratic senator’s offices in Rochester and Long Island also received threats through emails with the subject line “MAGA,” which alleged the “2020 election was rigged.” Law enforcement officials informed Schumer of the incidents Monday morning and are conducting full security sweeps, Schumer said.

“Everyone is safe, and I am grateful for their quick and professional response to ensure these offices remain safe and secure for all New Yorkers,” Schumer said in a written statement. “As I have said many times, these kinds of violent threats have absolutely no place in our political system. No one — no public servant, no staff member, no constituent, no citizen — should ever be targeted for simply doing their job.”

Schumer is the most recent victim in a string of political violence affecting New York politicians.

A window at the Washington, D.C., residence of Rep. Claudia Tenney − a Republican who represents parts of upstate New York − was smashed on Nov. 20. And earlier this year, Tenney’s district offices in Canandaigua and elsewhere in the sprawling 24th Congressional District were closed temporarily because of, as Tenney alleged, violent threats made to her staff.

At the time of the broken window incident, Tenney said, in part: “Violence, intimidation, and attacks against public officials or their families have no place in our society. I will not be deterred from doing my job on behalf of the people of New York.”
