Fairport Central School District canceled classes Friday, Dec. 5 due to power outages in the Village of Fairport and Town of Perinton.
Fairport’s Village Manager Bryan White told media outlets that 18,000 Fairport Electric customers lost power Friday morning due to an issue with transmission lines.
Just after 7 a.m., district officials announced that that all school classes and activities scheduled for Friday are canceled due to the outage.
Fairport Central School District had already started transporting students Friday morning when the outage occurred, and said students who already boarded buses will be taken home.
The incident occurred on a bitter cold day – where the temperature was close to 5 degrees at daybreak, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
Further details on the outage were not released.
