NFL insider: New York Giants' OC job is 'Todd Monken's to lose'

The New York Giants’ offensive coordinator vacancy, ranked among the top openings this offseason, is widely viewed as Todd Monken’s to lose as new head coach John Harbaugh builds his staff.

This job is considered Todd Monken’s to lose. Monken guided the Ravens to a top-ranked offense under Harbaugh as the unit’s coordinator for the past three seasons. But Monken is still sorting through options and in the mix for the Cleveland head coaching job. Miami has interest in him at offensive coordinator as well. Willie Taggart, who was just the assistant head coach/running backs coach in Baltimore, is also interviewing for the job. But Monken is the clear favorite at this point.

Despite Monken’s recent interview for the Cleveland Browns’ head coaching role and Harbaugh’s cautious comments earlier this week — “We’ll see, can’t really say right now, there’s a lot of moving parts” — the Giants remain confident in securing him.

The team has worked toward satisfying the Rooney Rule through Taggart’s interview, with the former Ravens assistant expected to join in another capacity.

Monken’s success in Baltimore, paired with the Giants’ promising young core led by quarterback Jaxson Dart and wide receiver Malik Nabers, positions him as the ideal candidate to elevate the offense.
