New York Giants will opening training camp in West Virginia

The New York Giants have been conducting their summer training camp at their headquarters at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center in East Rutherford every year since 2013.

That will change this year, under new head coach John Harbaugh, due to ongoing construction at Quest and preparations for the FIFA World Cup. They will head to the Allegheny Mountains in West Virginia for at least the first few weeks of camp.

From the New York Post:

The Giants will spend what is expected to be the first two weeks of camp in White Sulfur Springs, training and staying at the famous Greenbrier Resort, a national historic landmark among the Allegheny Mountains.

Exact dates for Giants training camp will be made after the NFL regular season and preseason schedule is announced in mid-May. The expectation is the majority of the Giants’ practices at the Greenbrier will be open to the public.

Ongoing renovations of the Quest cafeteria, locker room, weight room, and an office expansion of the facility built in 2009 are ongoing, necessitating the Giants’ moving their entire football operation for at least the first portion of training camp.

The Greenbrier is no stranger to NFL teams. Many clubs have held their training camp at the historic resort over the years. It has also been a frequent host to Western Division teams on extended Eastern road trips.

The last time the Giants trained away from their New Jersey facility was in 2012, when Tom Coughlin took the troops back up to the University of Albany, where the club trained every summer from 1996-2010.
