New York Giants given modest 2025 offseason grade by PFF

The New York Giants entered the offseason with a specific goal in mind: Take swings and fix the quarterback room.

General manager Joe Schoen did exactly that, exploring trades for Matthew Stafford and others, calling the Tennessee Titans about the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, and meeting with free agent Aaron Rodgers.

In the end, the Giants signed a pair of veteran quarterbacks — Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston — before trading back into the first round of April’s draft for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. They also re-signed Tommy DeVito.

Was it the precise outcome Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll had hoped? No one can know for sure but that seems unlikely given their earlier pursuits. Either way, it was a satisfactory outcome.

But that wasn’t all the team did this offseason. They also provided a significant boost to their secondary with a pair of veteran signings, added elite-level talent to the defensive line, beefed up their ground game, and brought in high-character players to fit their locker room.

Despite all of that work and on-paper improvement, Pro Football Focus gave the Giants a grade of B- for their offseason work.

New York Giants: B-

The Giants took swings at quarterbacks Geno Smith and Matthew Stafford in the trade market, and even called up to No. 1 overall for Cam Ward. But they were forced to settle for Jaxson Dart at the back end of Round 1. Defensive backs Paulson Adebo and Jevon Holland were great additions via free agency for a defense that earned a 52.2 PFF coverage grade last season. The Giants’ draft was very good overall, earning an A- in PFF’s draft grades.

Comparatively, PFF gave the Washington Commaners an A- for their offseason work, the Philadelphia Eagles a B, and the Dallas Cowboys a C+.

The New England Patriots and Chicago Bears, who will both play the Giants in 2025, were each given an A+.
