A stunning estate featuring a converted Mennonite barn overlooking Keuka Lake is on the market.
Price
Elysian Homes by Mark Siwiec and Associates has listed the property at 9183 County Road 76 in Urbana, Steuben County, for $1,250,000, according to the real estate listing.
Location
The 2,650-square-foot house is located on a 29-acre property within the Town of Urbana on the southwestern side of Keuka Lake. It is about mid-way on the bottom portion of the “Y” of the lake. It is located within the Hammondsport Central School District.
About the property
The house is a recrafted barn, originally built in 1871 then painstakingly dismantled and re-raised at its current site by Mennonite craftsmen, said Mark Siwiec of Elysian Homes, who has owned the property for 18 years.
The refurbished barn was completed in 2007. Inside, the barn’s original timbers support a ceiling nearly 30 feet high, walls of glass capture sweeping views of Keuka Lake and an open floor plan blends rustic character with contemporary design.
The three-bedroom, four-bathroom house features numerous unique details including the staircase handrails that were once cow fencing and entry steps created from the staves of a 5,000-gallon wine vats, Siwiec said.
The converted barn also has radiant heat floors, which means in wintry weather it feels as though you’re sitting in the middle of a snow globe while snuggled beneath a wool blanket, he said.
“We built it as a place to host friends, parties and have hosted weddings, dinners outside on the porch and watch countless sunsets over the bluff,” Siwiec said. “It was just such a great place to enjoy the company of friends and family. Simply one of a kind.”
Anne Hathaway once rented home
Another fun fact – actress Anne Hathaway rented the private residence for about a month more than a dozen years ago, staying here just after she filmed Les Misérables, which was released in 2012, Siwiec said.
