The bridge carrying Interstate 86 over Norfolk Southern Railway’s Southern Tier Line in the City of Corning will experience intermittent lane reductions starting Monday, May 12.
Eastbound and westbound passing lanes just west of Exit 48 (State Route 352) on the “Icicle Bridge” will be impacted, the New York State Department of Transportation said. The lane reductions are due to work along the shoulders and median.
The work in Corning is expected to last through June.
Additional nighttime repair work will occur over four weekends in July and August, with additional announcements forthcoming, NYSDOT said.
Motorists should anticipate travel delays during the work and are advised to seek alternate routes if necessary, NYSDOT said. Construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change based on conditions.
NYSDOT urged motorists to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
