Lake effect snow may impact Mohawk Valley commute. How much snow will we get?

Another lake effect snow band is developing over parts of the Mohawk Valley, especially northern Oneida County, and the National Weather Service in Binghamton warns there could be 1-2 inches of snow falling per hour during the afternoon commute Dec ,12.

The forecast also calls for lake effect snow showers to continue through the weekend, which could lead to additional significant accumulation.

According to the NWS, the snow will primary impact northern Oneida through the overnight hours and it could also affect Madison County. It warns travel could be hazardous, but lake effect bands are difficult to forecast.

Cold air will blast the Mohawk Valley this weekend

On Sunday, a cold air system making its way from the Plains and Midwest is expected to reach New York, according to an AccuWeather forecast. Utica region residents should expect the low temperature to drop to 13 degrees Saturday night and the high Sunday will be 22 degrees. Overnight Sunday, the temperature is expected to drop to 4 degrees. Snowfall is expected through the weekend.

Here is the snowfall totals through 7 a.m. Dec. 15 by location according to the NWS. Totals may vary based on the bands of lake effect snow.
