The New York Jets’ addition of Harrison Phillips was a welcomed surprise for for many.

Quinnen Williams included.

New York general manager Darren Mougey managed to pull off the sneaky trade with the Minnesota Vikings to land Phillips.

The Jets needed someone they could be confident in next to Williams in the middle of their defensive line. Phillips fits the bill.

Upon landing in New York, Phillips was well aware of Williams… as many are around football. Phillips called Williams one of his “favorite players” in the NFL during his first interview after the trade.

That compliment was paid forward by Williams as well.

“I was super excited [about the trade]. I been a fan of his for a little minute,” Williams said.

Williams noted that he has been a fan of Phillips’ work in the trenches over his career.

Specifically, head coach Aaron Glenn and the Jets will hope Phillips’ prowess against the run and as a space-eating player will help take blockers away from Williams. That would bode well for the pass-rushing talent that Williams is.

Williams’ full thoughts on Phillips can be found in the clip below:
