Jets DT T'Vondre Sweat could take advantage of weak Titans IOL

The NFL scheduled a revenge game between the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans in Week 1.

The Jets will be squaring off with their former head coach Robert Saleh. They also have former Titans players in T’Vondre Sweat and Jarvis Brownlee.

It seems that together, Saleh and Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi decided Sweat wasn’t a culture, character, or scheme fit for their organization. They discarded Sweat by trading him to the Jets for defensive end Jermaine Johnson II in a one-for-one trade. Sweat will enter Week 1 looking to make them pay for that decision.

Don’t be shocked if Sweat takes advantage of the Titans’ weak interior offensive line. Tennessee entered OTAs without knowing who will start at right guard and center for them. They signed veteran journeyman Austin Schlottmann, who made four starts for the New York Giants, to start at center. He’ll compete with sixth-round rookie Pat Coogan.

At right guard, sophomore fifth-round pick Jackson Slater is expected to win the job. The Titans also added below-average veteran starter Cordell Volson, and drafted Arkansas’ Fernando Carmona to compete at guard. None of these names inspire much confidence in protecting quarterback Cam Ward, who took a league-high 55 sacks a year ago.

Sweat could dominate any combination of Schlottmann-Slater, or Coogan-Volson. Whatever the Titans settle on, Sweat possesses the advantage in those matchups. Don’t be shocked if he makes the Titans regret trading him.
