The New York Jets were embarrassed by the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5, losing 37-22. Starting quarterback Justin Fields especially struggled. Most of Fields’ production occurred in garbage time with the Jets trailing by multiple scores throughout the second half.
Fields was sacked on five occasions. Holding onto the football while failing to go through his progressions in a timely manner has been a consistent issue. The 0-5 Jets are firmly in the market to select a quarterback in the 2026 NFL draft.
That’s precisely what the Jets do in the latest first-round mock scenario by The Draft Network. General manager Darren Mougey selects Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore at No. 1 overall. The Jets are now the NFL’s lone winless team in the league.
“Justin Fields is a short-term bridge quarterback for the New York Jets,” The Draft Network wrote. “After a year of setting the culture and rebuilding the locker room, Aaron Glenn will be ready to draft his quarterback of the future. Oregon’s Dante Moore answered questions by going 29-of-39 for 289 yards and three touchdowns against Penn State last weekend. Moore is unflappable mentally. Physically, he possesses the arm talent required to mix velocities.”
Fields signed a two-year contract with the Jets. That won’t prevent Mougey and Glenn from drafting a quarterback very early this April should the opportunity present itself. Every passing Fields performance proves he’s not the long-term solution. Meanwhile Moore is one of the most dynamic QB prospects in college football.
