The Hilton East Assisted Living Facility has reopened two months after a significant water leak forced a midnight emergency evacuation of 131 residents.
In a Feb. 27 Facebook post, the facility said it is welcoming residents back to Hilton East on a staggered schedule. All residents will be able to return by the end of the week.

“Thank you to everyone who helped us cross the finish line,” the post said. “We cannot wait to welcome all of our residents back home!”
The facility was closed after staff discovered leaky ceilings in more than two dozen apartments around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 28. Fire crews that responded to the assisted living home found water was infiltrating critical building components.
Residents were evacuated to a nearby elementary school on West Avenue while long term plans were made. Many residents were temporarily transferred to different facilities or stayed with family during the closure and repairs. Local code enforcement officers and the state department of health approved plans to reopen in late February.
