Section 9 schools have placed a good number of athletes into the final rounds of the New York State Federation boys swimming championships in Ithaca.
All swimmers competed during preliminary rounds on Friday – the top 10 finishers advance to Saturday’s ‘A’ final, the next 10 to the ‘B’ final and the following 10 to the ‘C’ final.
Qualifying for the ‘A’ finals are: Kingston junior Mason Crowley (50-meter freestyle); F.D. Roosevelt senior Troy Speare (100 butterfly); Cornwall senior Devin Rothman (100 backstroke); Warwick senior Connor Holland (100 back); Onteora junior Liam Young (100 breaststroke); Kingston’s 200-yard medley relay; Pine Bush’s 200 free relay; and, Kingston’s 400 free relay.
Moving on to ‘B’ finals are: Onteora’s Young (200 free); Cornwall’s Rothman (200 individual medley); Monroe-Woodbury senior Joshua Insdorf (200 IM); Pine Bush’s 200 medley relay; and, Pine Bush’s 400 free relay.
Advancing to ‘C’ finals are: Red Hook junior Reuben Berko (100 fly); Warwick’s Holland (100 free); and, Monroe-Woodbury’s Insdorf (500 free).
Competition resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Federation includes schools from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, New York City’s Public Schools Athletic League and the Catholic High School Athletic Association.
