Calf injuries seem to be a thing with the Buffalo Bills so far in training camp.
After Joey Bosa missed almost all of the spring with a sore calf, offensive lineman Sedrick Van Pran-Granger has been sidelined at the start of camp with a calf injury, and now linebacker Dorian Williams is down with that same ailment.
Williams – who was wearing braces on his left arm and knee during the first two practices – went down during Thursday and did not return to practice, though no one knew why. On Friday, the Bills said he hurt his calf and would not practice, and he was on the sidelines wearing a boot on his right foot so he could be down for a few days.
Williams is a key backup for the Bills, especially because of the fragility of starter Matt Milano who thus far has stayed healthy. Williams being out creates an opportunity for Edefuan Ulofoshio who saw only special teams duty last season as a rookie, as well as oft-injured Baylon Spector.
Tight end Dawson Knox injury update
The Bills have no need to rush Knox back from the hamstring injury that he suffered last week working out on his own. With Knox out, the Bills are getting extra looks at Zach Davidson and rookie Jackson Hawes who are competing for the No. 3 role and both have made an impression.
Edge rusher AJ Epenesa injury update
Epenesa left Thursday’s practice with an ankle injury and did not practice Friday. He was in street clothes on the sideline but did not appear to be limping so it could be more of a precautionary thing.
Offensive tackle Spencer Brown injury update
Still no sign of Brown who remains out with a sore back, but this has been a great opportunity to work Tylan Grable and Ryan Van Demark at right tackle because they are clearly in competition to be the swing tackle which is a potentially key spot on game day.
Wide receiver Laviska Shenault injury update
He was placed on the non-football injury list as he deals with a lower leg injury. He’s already a player firmly on the bubble so his continued absence is a problem. He’s starting to look like the 2025 version of Chase Claypool who came to the Bills trying to salvage his career, but got hurt early in camp and was released before he ever got a chance to show anything.
Offensive lineman Alec Anderson injury update
Anderson got into the first scrap of camp with edge rusher Hayden Harris, during which Harris’ helmet got ripped off. Once it was broken up, Anderson jogged off the field and headed to the locker room and did not return so it’s unknown what exactly happened.
Offensive lineman Sedrick Van Pran-Granger injury update
Remains sidelined with a sore calf.
