Each summer an image of a silo and two hay bales posing as the Iowa State Fair logo circulates social media. While it creates a lot of laughs on social media, this fake logo has long been debunked as a myth.
But that sure doesn’t stop Iowans from having fun with it.
What is the origin of the fake Iowa State Fair logo?
The Iowa State Fair marketing team released a statement clearing the air about the fake logo years ago.
“The Iowa State Fair has a trademark Iowa State Fair branding box logo that has been in place since 2005 and we don’t have any plans to change it,” according to a statement from the Iowa State Fair in 2016.
The State Fair wasn’t the only organization that debunked the fake logo. Snopes, a website dedicated to deciphering fake from facts, also helped sort out the truth. While Snopes couldn’t decipher where the fake image originated, it did note that the words on the fake image are very similar to those of the New York State Fair logo.
This year a well-known Iowa meme page, Iowa Chill, again reposted the joke logo. Once again, the comment section ran with it. Although, it seems people are starting to remember the logo isn’t the real deal after all these years.
What is the Iowa State Fair 2025 logo?
In addition to its main logo, the Iowa State Fair launches a new theme each year. For 2025, the Iowa State Fair’s theme is “Fair Sweet Fair,” with a logo that features a ferris wheel.
So now you know when you see the fraudulent logo shared on your friends’ social media, you can set them straight. But maybe before you do, have a little fun with the joke.
