West Des Moines police trying to determine how missing 13-year-old got to Tennessee

The West Des Moines Police Department is investigating the circumstances around the disappearance of a 13-year-old girl who was being reunited with her family.

Detectives said Dhianna Renee Hughes was found in Jefferson County, Tennessee on May 26, according to a news release from the West Des Moines Police Department.

Earlier on May 26, state and local elected officials gathered in prayer with her family worried over the disappearance. Police said then that Hughes did not have a history of running away.

Hughes went missing during an overnight stay with her grandmother, who lives at Country Club Village Apartments on Office Park Road in West Des Moines on May 24, police said.

West Des Moines detectives believe Dhianna was not alone on her way to Tennessee, according to the latest news release.

Detectives were able to get information that led them to Tennessee when Hughes was reported missing, the news release said.
