Iowa football offers son of former Hawkeyes All-American DB in 2028 recruiting class

As Iowa football continues to recruit the next great stars to don the black and gold, the Hawkeyes extended an offer to a 2028 prospect with a familiar name on Thursday.

The Hawkeyes offered a scholarship to Grant Bowen, who is the son of former All-American Hawkeye defensive back and seven-year NFL veteran Matt Bowen.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder is a star for Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Elmhurst, Illinois, where he possesses almost identical skills to his father but displays them on both sides of the ball. While he hasn’t been ranked or rated by the major recruiting sites, he has garnered interest outside of Iowa, including getting offers from Big Ten foes Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue.

Bowen has played two seasons on the defensive side of the ball and one on the offensive side.

Offensively, Bowen has 15 receptions for 394 yards and seven touchdowns through five games played as a receiver this season for the Knights.

Bowen has played seven games across two seasons on the defensive side as an outside linebacker. He has recorded 18 tackles, one pass defended and one interception returned for 35 yards, per MaxPreps.

While it is extremely early in his recruitment journey, Bowen will undoubtedly get more offers from programs nationwide as he is expected to be one of the more sought-after prospects from the 2028 class in the state.

The elder Bowen played at Iowa from 1996-99. He was named a second-team All-American and a first-team All-Big Ten honoree in his final year with the Hawkeyes. After being selected in the sixth round (198th) of the 2000 NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams (incidentally, one pick before seven-time Super Bowl champion, Tom Brady). He played seven seasons with additional stops in Green Bay, Washington and Buffalo.
