Weather service expects stormy end to the work week. Here's what forecasters are saying.

The National Weather Service is expecting thunderstorms from Wednesday evening through Friday in the Tri-State, and a few of the storms could be severe.

When are the best chances for thunderstorms in the Tri-State?

Thoough there is a small chance (30 percent) for storms Wednesday evening in Evansville and Henderson, the best odds kick in on Thursday. That’s when, according to the National Weather Service, there’s a 50-60 percent chance for storms in the morning hours, and then an 80 percent chance in the afternoon and evening hours.

A similar setup is in place on Friday: Smaller chances in the morning hours, then a 75 percent chance in the afternoon and evening hours,

Some rain could linger into the early morning hours on Saturday.

Will any of the storms be severe in the Tri-State?

It’s possible, but forecasters aren’t expecting a widespread outbreak of severe weather. In a Wednesday morning message to local emergency management officials and media, a weather service meteorologist described the outlook as “three days of low-end severe potential.”

The main threat with any storm that becomes severe would be damaging winds.

How much rainfaill is expected in the Tri-State?

The National Weather Service is much more bullish on rain totals with the storms, saying that thunderstorms will have “high” rainfall rates, with between one and three inches of rain possible by Sunday.
