No. 21 Notre Dame was on the verge of allowing the Boise State Broncos to get points before halftime, but Fighting Irish safety Tae Johnson was ready when Broncos quarterback Maddux Madsen overthrew a falling wide receiver.
Johnson caught the ball that ended up being thrown right to him and he returned the interception for 37 yards. Some of that yardage came back as Boubacar Traore was flagged for an illegal block in the back on the return.
The pick allowed the Irish to keep Boise State off the board, even if the penalty prevented the Irish from taking a shot at the end zone from midfield before the half ended.
