EVANSVILLE — The final weekend of the Indiana high school boys track and field season is set.
A handful of athletes from Southwestern Indiana advanced from the regional at Central High School on Thursday, May 29. The IHSAA state finals will be held on Friday, June 6 at North Central High School in Indianapolis. The top three finishers in each event advanced to state, plus any individual or relay team meeting the three-participant standard in the finals of their event.
Floyd Central clipped North by three points, 76-73, to win the regional team championship. The Huskies had four regional champions in De’Amontey Layne (200), Darian Walker (110 hurdles), the 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay.
The other regional champions from SW Indiana were Karwin Pope (Princeton) in the 100, Reagan Shaver (Mater Dei) in the 400, Dane Kramer (Castle) in the 800, Jackson Nolan (Reitz) in the 3,200, Bret Lange (Heritage Hills) in the 300 hurdles, Castle 4×800 relay and Grant Boyd (Pike Central) in the pole vault.
