Scores, pairings for Bloomington area IHSAA boys basketball sectionals

This is the place to be every night this week as the IHSAA boys basketball sectionals tip off on Tuesday with daily updates as the tournament moves along.

TUESDAY, March 3

Class 4A, Sectional 13 at Martinsville

Bloomington South 56, Martinsville 34: Strong defensive effort after a quick start by the Arties send South (18-6) into the semifinals on Friday vs. Terre Haute South. Jack Clark was 4-of-5 from the arc for 18 points while Rylan Stikeleather had nine points, Duncan Combs eight. South pushed its lead to 28-17 by halftime and took a 42-24 lead into the fourth as Martinsville (7-17) hit just one field goal in the period. The Arties got 17 points from Grady Gardner (nine in the fourth) and 14 from Carson Robertson.

Class 4A, Sectional 14 at Columbus North

Franklin 49, East Central 27: The Grizzly Cubs (12-12) clamped down defensively after taking a 16-13 lead in the first quarter, ending the Trojans season at 9-15. Franklin plays Whiteland in the semifinals.

Class 4A, Sectional 15 at Seymour

Jeffersonville 72, Floyd Central 54: The Red Devils (10-12) rebounded after trailing 19-17 after one period to go up five at half and broke it open with a 25-point third. The Highlanders finish (11-12), Jeff will take on the host Owls in the semis.

New Albany 80, Scottsburg 64: The Bulldogs (19-5) wasted no time building a 16-point halftime lead and rolling into the semifinals. Scottsburg finishes 13-11.

Class 3A, Sectional 27 at Speedway

Edgewood 47, Owen Valley 30: Mustangs (11-11) went on game turning 20-2 run in third quarter to rally. Patriots finish 2-22.

Indianapolis Washington 54, Speedway 39: The Continentals (13-11) moved on to a showdown with Northview. Speedway finishes 11-11.

Class 3A, Sectional 28 at Greenwood

Greenwood 77, Rushville 42: Woodmen (14-9) advance. Rushville finishes 8-16.

Class 2A, Sectional 46 at Salem

Salem 52, Eastern (Pekin) 39: The Lions (9-14) head to semifinals. Musketeers finish 3-20.

Class 2A, Sectional 47 at North Knox

Linton 79, Eastern Greene 63: The Miners (20-4) were hot early from the 3-point line, hitting 11 in all to outpace the T-Birds (12-11), who went down fighting with a furious rally in the fourth. Coby Sykes poured in 30 points for Eastern while Kyan Hudson was held to 3, with Noah Coomer scoring 10, Ayden Deckard nine and Saxton Pennycuff eight. Linton led 35-19 at the break after Jackson Miller, who finished with 27, knocked down four 3s in the period. It was 57-31 going in to the fourth where Eastern Greene scored 32 points, hitting seven 3s, three by Deckard.

West Vigo 54, North Knox 36: The Vikings (16-7) have their most wins since 2016-17, advancing to the semifinals behind 20 points from Zach Rogers. North Knox finishes 6-17.

Class 1A, Sectional 58 at Indianapolis Lutheran

Eminence 53, Central Christian 35: Eels (16-8) break through with first sectional win since 2017 with second win of the season vs. Central Christian (9-12).

Class 1A, Sectional 61 at White River Valley

Cloverdale 56, White River Valley 44: The Clovers (16-8) took a slim 34-30 lead into the fourth before breaking it open. WRV trailed big early, 15-5 and 25-18 at the first two breaks and closed the gap but will finish 9-15.

Shakamak 48, Lighthouse Christian 27: The Lions (9-14) were able to hang tough through the first two periods, down just 20-17 at half, but the offense went bone dry from there as the Lakers (7-16) pulled away.

Class 1A, Sectional 62 at Loogootee

Orleans 64, Washington Catholic 8: State-ranked Orleans(19-4) didn’t waste any time putting the winless Cardinals (0-23) down for the counting.

Vincennes Rivet 59, Medora 52: In a back and forth game, Rivet stung the Hornets in the fourth after falling behind 41-38. The Patriots (7-15) led by just two at the half. Medora ends up 13-11, still looking for its first sectional win since 1997.

WEDNESDAY, March 4

Class 3A, Sectional 28 at Greenwood

Beech Grove 63, Indian Creek 52: Tough season comes to a close for the Braves (3-20), who trailed 20-6 after one period and were down 12 at half only to get within seven late before Beech Grove (9-16) hung on.

Roncalli 69, New Palestine 58: Conner Kesler has 17 points and Joe Taylor 15 to lead four double-figure scorers for the Royals (15-7) to off-set 35 from New Pal’s Will Davidson. Dragons are done at 13-11 despite leading 29-24 at half. Roncalli flips game around with 21-9 run in third.

Class 2A, Sectional 46 at Salem

Mitchell 62, Clarksville 49: Bluejackets (8-16) used a 21-point third quarter to break away from a 27-22 halftime lead and put away the Generals (4-19). Mitchell was 2-10 over its last dozen heading into the postseason. Clarksville has not won a sectional game since 2018.

Paoli 68, Crawford County 36: No. 1 Rams (24-0) cruise behind 16 points from Dane Padgett and 12 from Chad Sullivan. Crawford County finishes 9-15.

Class 1A, Sectional 58 at Indianapolis Lutheran

Greenwood Christian 77, Victory College Prep 30: Cougars (9-14) advance. Victory College Prep finishes 3-15.

Indianapolis Lutheran 83, Indianapolis Metropolitan 67: Saints (7-15) march on, ending season for Metropolitan (9-15).

Class 1A, Sectional 61 at White River Valley

Bloomfield 66, North Central 39: Cardinals (16-8) had few issues advancing, leading 35-21 at halftime. Thunderbirds finish up 8-14. Bloomfield has won 10 straight sectional openers.

Clay City 68, Dugger Union 44: The Eels (12-12) jumped up big early 26-11, only to see the Bulldogs (5-19) get back in it by halftime, 39-31. But from there, Clay City leaned on its defense to pull away.

Class 1A, Sectional 62 at Loogootee

Barr-Reeve 48, Loogootee 35: No. 2 Vikings (22-1) handle home team in opener behind 15 points from Kierson Lengacher and 12 from Josh Miller. AJ Foster with 15 for Lions (15-9).

North Daviess 55, Shoals 42: Cougars (15-8) put away stubborn Shoals (7-17) in teh second half afte edging out to a 27-22 lead.

FRIDAY, March 6

Class 4A, Sectional 13 at Martinsville

Terre Haute North 78, Bloomington North 39: Nearly perfect final three quarters boost No. 7 THN (22-3) into final. Cougars finish 14-8.

Bloomington South 60, Terre Haute South 45: Quick start builds 21-8 lead and levels out but Panthers (19-6) move on. Braves finish 3-21.

Class 4A, Sectional 14 at Columbus North

Columbus North 55, Columbus East 43: Bull Dogs (13-10) trailed 24-20 at half before rallying with a 19-4 run in the third to end Olympians season at 7-15.

Whiteland 58, Franklin 50: Warriors (19-5) led 19-13 after one period and kept its conference rival at bay the rest of the way as Grizzly Cubs finish 12-13.

Class 4A, Sectional 15 at Seymour

Seymour 45, Jeffersonville 41: Owls (11-11) win back and forth game as Seymour led at half only to see Jeff (10-13) go up 32-30 after three.

New Albany 85, Bedford North Lawrence 43: No. 10 Bulldogs (20-5) overwhelmed the Stars (6-17) from the start, leading 30-10 after one period and putting the running clock in play the second half.

Class 3A, Sectional 27 at Speedway

Cascade 60, Edgewood 48: The shorthanded Mustangs (11-12) let it get away in the third as Cascade (15-7) went on an 18-8 run to turn a 24-21 halftime lead into a 42-29 advantage. Edgewood, without start junior Caden Jones, got another big game from AJ Norris with 16 points and six rebounds, while Karson Gladhill had 14 points, Reece Roberts had nine points and Luke Druckrey had six points and seven boards. Toby Savini had 15 points to lead four in double figures for the Cadets, who are seeking their first sectional title since 2006.

Northview 63, Indianapolis Washington 53: A big third quarter helped the No. 4 Knights (20-5) rally by the Continentals (13-12), who led 25-24 at half. GW led by as much as 10 in the first half as Northview turned it over 14 times.

Class 3A, Sectional 28 at Greenwood

Greenwood 60, Shelbyville 53: Woodmen (15-9) pull the upset. State ranked Bears (19-6) led 29-28 at half and 38-36 after three but couldn’t hold on.

Roncalli 52, Beech Grove 35: Royals (16-7) advance. Hornets finish 9-17.

Class 2A, Sectional 46 at Salem

Providence 57, Salem 40: The Pioneers (14-7) started to pull away in the second half, up 22-17 at the break against the host Lions (9-15). It was 37-25 after three.

Paoli 77, Mitchell 36: The No. 1 Rams (25-0) were clicking once again to blow by the Bluejackets (8-17). It was 53-18 by halftime.

Class 2A, Sectional 47 at North Knox

Linton 54, South Knox 48: The Spartans (10-14) had upset Linton in the regular season and found themselves tied in the rematch, 26-26 at half. But the Miners (22-4) found a way in the fourth quarter after taking a 36-35 lead.

Sullivan 59, West Vigo 37: The Arrows (17-7) had the bye but came out on fire, leading 34-21 at half and cruising into the finals. West Vigo finishes 16-8.

Class 1A, Sectional 58 at Indianapolis Lutheran

Eminence 52, Providence Cristo Rey 49 (2OT): Eels (17-8) advance to final. PCR ends up 12-13.

Greenwood Christian 45, Indianapolis Lutheran 43: Cougars (10-14) knock out home Saints (7-16).

Class 1A, Sectional 61 at White River Valley

Cloverdale 50, Shakamak 49 (OT): The Clovers (17-8) were shocked early as the Lakers (7-17) took an early 18-point lead and were up 27-18 at the break. Cloverdale tied it up at 34 after the third.

Bloomfield 51, Clay City 28: The Cardinals (17-8) dominated after taking a 16-10 lead in the first quarter. Eels finish 12-12. Blake Neill had 26 points for Bloomfield.

Class 1A, Sectional 62 at Loogootee

Orleans 56, Vincennes Rivet 34: The Patriots (7-16) surprisingly had the better of its in the first half, leading 20-19, but the state ranked Bulldogs (20-4) roared back.

Barr-Reeve 63, North Daviess 30: No. 2 Vikings (23-1) buried the Cougars (15-9) in the second half to set up a huge showdown .

SATURDAY, March 7

Class 4A, Sectional 13 at Martinsville

Terre Haute North (22-3) vs. Bloomington South (19-6), 7 p.m.

Class 4A, Sectional 14 at Columbus North

Columbus North (13-10) vs. Whiteland (19-5), 7 p.m.

Class 4A, Sectional 15 at Seymour

Seymour (11-11) vs. New Albany (20-5), 7:30 p.m.

Class 3A, Sectional 27 at Speedway

Cascade (15-7) vs. Northview (20-5), 7:30 p.m.

Class 2A, Sectional 46 at Salem

Providence (14-7) vs. Paoli (25-0), 7 p.m.

Class 2A, Sectional 47 at North Knox

Linton (22-4) vs. Sullivan (17-7), 7 p.m.
