Randolph County woman killed in U.S. 36 crash

WINCHESTER, IN — A Randolph County woman was killed on Thursday, March 5, in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 36.

Rosemarie Cowen Hartlage, 78, of Lynn, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, at the federal highway’s intersection with Arba Pike, east of Lynn, according to Randolph County Sheriff Art Moystner.

The sheriff said Hartlage was driving a Buick Enclave southbound on Arba Pike and stopped at U.S. 36. But she then pulled into the path of an eastbound semi-tractor trailer driven by Jared Travis Hart, 32, from Greenville, Ohio.

The passenger side of Hartlage’s car was struck by the front of the semi, according to Moystner. Hart was treated for minor injuries.

The crash was reported about 8:30 a.m. In addition to sheriff’s deputies, Lynn firefighters and the Randolph County coroner’s office responded to the scene.

The sheriff said Indiana State Police conducted the crash reconstruction because of the involvement of the semi tractor.
