NFL predictions, picks in Week 14: Colts-Jaguars

Joel A. Erickson, IndyStar: Jaguars 28-21

“No explanation needed. Not a real one, anyway, until the curse in Jacksonville is broken.”

Nathan Brown, IndyStar: Colts 24-21

“As with the rest of their late schedule, a win here won’t be easy — particularly against a Jaguars run defense that tops the NFL. The Colts may need to lean on a passing game that has been shaky for a month, but it’s hard to fathom that this veteran-led team would lose three in a row — even with ‘the curse.’ This one goes down to the wire, but the Colts find a way to win.”

Pete Prisco, CBS Sports: Jaguars 21-17

“The Colts have lost three of four and they now trail the Jaguars in the AFC South race. The Colts haven’t won in Jacksonville since 2014, which is hard to believe. The Colts love to run the ball, but the Jaguars are No. 1 in run defense. That will put it on Daniel Jones, who is limited with a broken fibula. I don’t think he can win it, while Trevor Lawrence will make plays against the Sauce Gardner-less defense. Jaguars win it.”

Mike Florio, Pro Football Talk: Colts 23-20

“The Colts haven’t won in Jacksonville since 2014. The Colts, after losing three of four, need to change recent history now.”

Iain MacMillan, Sports Illustrated: Jaguars win

“The Colts are a mess. They’re missing Sauce Gardner (calf) and DeForest Buckner (neck), arguably the two best defensive players on the team. Then there’s Daniel Jones, who is gutting it out on a daily basis with a fractured fibula. Meanwhile, the Jaguars have won three straight and haven’t lost to the Colts at home since 2014.

“While Indianapolis is understandably a slight favorite in the game, it feels like things are starting to snowball on a team that, for the first two months of the season, was the league’s darling.”

Vic Tafur, The Athletic: Colts cover the spread

“For all the talk of Daniel Jones’ leg injury, the Colts are fading because Jonathan Taylor hasn’t hit 100 yards in three of the past four games. The last time these teams met, in the regular-season finale last season, Taylor ran 34 times for 177 yards. The Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence is coming off the least-impressive three-game winning streak ever. I trust the guy with the broken leg more.”

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: Colts 27-24

“The Jacksonville Jaguars are a tough rushing matchup for Jonathan Taylor, but they also are very giving to the tight end and wide receivers downfield. Indianapolis will try to get Taylor going, with Jacksonville working to take away the run first, and that will facilitate Daniel Jones getting the ball to Tyler Warren, Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman Jr. on intermediate-to-deep routes. The Jaguars can have some similar success, but in the end, they lose the key turnover battle.”

Brad Gagnon, Bleacher Report: Colts cover the spread

“This game is a toss-up, but it really comes down to me trusting Indy a lot more than Jacksonville. It’s also an anti-trend pick, as the talented and well-coached Colts are unlikely to drop a third straight game out of nowhere, while the erratic and unpredictable Jags are just as unlikely to win a fourth straight game. Sometimes, you have to keep it that simple. The Jags also thrive on defensive takeaways, but the Colts are quite disciplined on offense.”
