Marathon runners took over Indianapolis streets Saturday. Who was the fastest?

Runners from across the world traversed Indianapolis on Nov. 8. during the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon.

Thousands of people raced in the sold-out 26.2-mile marathon, which weaved through downtown, Fall Creek, the State Fairgrounds, Broad Ripple and White River State Park. The event also hosted a 5K and half-marathon.

The Indy Monumental is one of the top-15 most attended marathons in the country, averaging over several thousand finishers. As a USA Track & Field certified course known for being flat and fast, the route attracts habitual runners and Olympic hopefuls seeking to set personal bests and fast qualifying times.

Closed streets will be opened up on a rolling basis throughout the day. All roads will be open by 5:30 p.m.

As of 2 p.m., here are this morning’s race results:

Fastest male finishers

Joseph Whelan of New York: 2:12:28 (Unofficial Course Record)Ben Decker of Massachusetts: 2:15:21Andrew Bowman of Michigan: 2:15:32Sean Ryan of Florida: 2:15:36Ryan Forsyth of Colorado: 2:15:53

Pending official race results, Whelan would set a men’s course record. The previous record was set in 2023 by Lyle O’Brien of Colorado at 2:15:41.

Fastest female finishers

Amanda Mosborg of Minnesota: 2:31:57Lucy Dobbs of Indiana: 2:32:38Anna Benedettini of Virginia: 2:33:09Gabby Hentemann of Texas: 2:34:23Alyssa McElheny of Michigan: 2:34:24

The women’s course record was set in 2024 by Lindsey Bradley of Texas at 2:31:49.

Hoosier standouts

Lucy Dobbs, who placed second in the women’s division, lives in Indianapolis and is an actuary at OneAmerica Financial, according to her Olympic trial profile. She qualified for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials with her 2:36:33 time in the 2023 Indy Monumental Marathon, which she described as “extra special.” Dobbs improved on that time Saturday by nearly four minutes.

Two Hoosier women also led their age divisions: Zionsville’s Katie Humphries in the 19-24 group and Sabine Sturm in the 65-69 group.

The top Hoosier man to finish was 24-year-old Luke Pohl of Marion, who placed 37th with a time of 2:24:58.
