Latest Anthony Richardson trade intel: New team emerges as possible landing spot

ESPN’s Stephen Holder provided a brief update on where things stand with the Indianapolis Colts and quarterback Anthony Richardson, who is available through trade.

At this moment, no trade is imminent, but Holder did mention a new team to monitor.

“No deal is imminent, per multiple sources,” Holder posted on X. “There are interested teams, but the dust is still settling from free agency. One particular team to monitor: the Green Bay Packers.”

When the news first broke during NFL combine week that the Colts were willing to trade Richardson, the NFL Network reported that the Vikings were a team to watch as well.

The Packers would provide Richardson with the opportunity to sit behind Jordan Love and continue to develop in the Matt LaFleur offense, a system that just helped Malik Willis land a big free agent deal with Miami.

“Richardson, who has been given permission by the Colts to seek out a deal, would be attracted to a situation that pairs him with a proven QB developer,” Holder added. “There are several coaches out there that check that box, including Matt LaFleur.”

Richardson’s agents have weighed in on the trade talks and discussed the importance of finding the right team fit.

We recently took a look back at what other former first-round quarterbacks have brought back in terms of trade compensation, along with the salary cap ramifications of trading Richardson.

Once Daniel Jones was named the Colts’ starting quarterback last summer, it then felt like only a matter of time before the trade talks with Richardson began.

Richardson is entering the fourth year of his rookie deal. He has a fifth-year option for the 2027 season.
