IndyCar Honda 200 at Mid-Ohio complete results, crashes: Scott Dixon wins after Alex Palou's mistake

Scott Dixon takes advantage of a rare mistake by Alex Palou to earn his 7th career victory at Mid-Ohio and 59th in the IndyCar Series.

Palou briefly leaves the track with 4 laps to go, allowing Dixon by, and Dixon wins by less than one-half second. Dixon has won at least one race in 21 consecutive IndyCar seasons.

“Stupid mistake on my part,” Palou told Fox Sports post-race.

Dixon, who gets his first Mid-Ohio win since 2019, uses a 2-pit stop strategy, while his Chip Ganassi teammate uses a standard 3-stop strategy.

Christian Lundgaard completes the podium on the 13-turn, 2.26-mile road course in the Ohio countryside.

Rinus Veekay is the day’s big mover, finishing 9th after starting 26th.

Team Penske’s rough season continues: Scott McLaughlin finishes 23rd; an engine fire leaves Will Power in 26th; Josef Newgarden goes off track on Lap 1 and finishes 27th.

IndyCar expert picks, predictions for Mid-Ohio

From Nathan Brown, IndyStar

We’re in the back half of a 17-race season, and Palou and Kirkwood are the only drivers to take checkered flags.

Who gets a much-needed podium finish? Marcus Ericsson. Of all the drivers in the field sorely in need of a pick-me-up, the fact that Ericsson sits 21st in points just a single top-10 is one of the year’s biggest headscratchers. And yet, he heads to a track where he’s finished in the top 6 in 4 of his last 5 starts, and where he started and finished 5th a year ago. He’s finished on the podium here before (2021, runner-up), and this is a track where Andretti Global has shown speed in years past.

What is something no one sees coming? Amazingly, we finally get our third winner of the year in Colton Herta. He has only done that in two of his last 10 pole starts. It will be his 10th career victory and Andretti Global’s fourth of the year, its most since 2018.
