The IHSAA has revealed the pairings for the upcoming 2025 football sectionals across Indiana.
Just about all the teams in the Bloomington, Martinsville and Bedford area will have a real shot at some postseason success with their draws. Here’s a look at what it means when the postseason gets started after this week’s season finales.
Class 5A Sectional 15
Bloomington North (5-3) and No. 2 South (8-0) will open at home against their Terre Haute counterparts, with a chance to play each for a title if they can replicate their regular season matchups.
The Cougars had no problems in a 56-0 win over TH North, which sparked their current four-game win streak while the defending champion Panthers beat up TH South, 49-14.
Both will get a week off before beginning play on Oct. 31.
Big time title games are also a possibility in Sectional 13 (No. 1 New Palestine vs. No. 3 Cathedral), Sectional 14 (No. 5 East Central vs. No. 10 Whiteland) and Sectional 16 (Evansville North vs. No. 11 Castle/No. 10 Floyd Central winner).
Class 4A Sectional 23
Bedford North Lawrence (6-2) will be hitting the road for Round 1 rematch against ex-Hoosier Hills Conference foe Jennings County, a team the Stars crushed 63-0 on Sept. 26. The other upper bracket contest has Connersville (3-5) at Shelbyville (4-4), whose last sectional win came in 2015.
In the lower bracket, Martinsville (3-5) will also have a rematch on its hands with a short trip up I-69 to Greenwood (2-6). The Arties won their last Mid-State meeting 38-20. Silver Creek (3-5) has an even shorter trip (six miles) to Charlestown (6-2), now under new coach Aaron Daniel, formerly an assistant at Bloomington South. They met in Week 1 with Daniel’s Pirates winning 47-27.
Class 3A Sectional 31
Tough draw and healthy bus ride for Edgewood (5-3) to Scottsburg (7-1), which ripped Owen Valley last year (76-9) before falling to Madison. Scottsburg features 1,500-yard thrower Nathan Byrd and 1,000-yard rusher Landon Shuck. Their only loss is to Charlestown, 20-17. It’ll be the first meeting between the schools with Scottsburg starting varsity football in 2017.
Winner gets either of two struggling teams, Corydon Central (2-6) or North Harrison (3-5), which took their conference meeting 32-29 in Week 3.
In the upper bracket, Indian Creek (5-3) got the bye and waits the winner between Owen Valley (2-6), which got an even longer trip of over two hours to Madison (1-7). Cubs just picked up their first win, topping Corydon Central. They’ve won just two sectional games since 2009.
Class 2A Sectional 37
Only two teams here are above .500 and Monrovia (3-5) drew a road game against one of them in Indianapolis Scecina (5-3). The Crusaders have faced most of the teams in this sectional, with wins over Heritage Christian, Ritter and Covenant Christian, but Monrovia has faced by far the best schedule (ranked 52nd overall in the state. Winner likely to see Heritage Christian (4-4) in the semifinals. The Eagles open against Indianapolis Ritter (3-5), a team it took care of 40-14 in Week 6
Park Tudor (4-4) got the bye and will await No. 6 Indianapolis Lutheran (7-1), which drew a trip to Covenant Christian (2-6) for its opener.
Class 2A Sectional 39
It’s been a tough year for Mitchell (0-8) and the draw did the Bluejackets no favors in handing them sectional favorite and No. 9 Linton (6-2), which takes a five-game win streak into its showdown at 4A Northview in Week 9. Greencastle (4-4) at Brown County (1-7) is the other match up in the bottom bracket.
Up top, Sullivan (5-3) treks to South Vermillion (2-6) and Pike Central (0-8) goes to North Posey (6-2).
Class 1A Sectional 47
Eastern Greene (1-7) will get a home game in a spread-out sectional, hosting South Decatur (2-5). The Cougars’ only wins are over Edinburgh, which cancelled the rest of its season, leaving a seven-team bracket here, and one-win Brown County (26-20). Their last playoff win came in 2018.
Milan (3-4), which beat South Decatur 48-0, got the bye and awaits the winner. Three of the Indians’ four losses are by one possession.
T-Birds avoid No. 2 North Decatur (7-1), whose only loss is to Linton, which opens in the bottom bracket at home against Greenwood Christian (1-7). West Washington (4-4) is at Knightstown (5-3).
