Guess what? More road construction begins soon in Monroe County.

More road construction work on Ind. 46, slated to start on or soon after Dec. 1, will reduce westbound traffic to one lane at Jack’s Defeat Creek bridge in Ellettsville.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is in the midst of a $4 million project to repave and upgrade the bridge.

E&B Paving Inc. will be doing work as part of the initial phase of the bridge rehabilitation project, according to an INDOT news release.

Westbound traffic over the bridge will be reduced to one 12-foot-wide lane while work is in progress. Phase 1 work is expected to be complete in late spring 2026, the news release said, unless there are weather-related delays. There will be more to come. “Additional bridge work will take place on eastbound and westbound Ind. 46 with overall project completion anticipated for fall 2026.”

This past summer and into the fall, eastbound Ind. 46 over the bridge was reduced to one lane for the bridge deck overlay.

INDOT said drivers in the construction zone should “slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions.”
